A letter from Matalinah Mwamlima:

My name is Matalinah Mwamlima, I am from Malawi and currently I am an English teacher at BIFCA.

When the Corona virus had been discovered in Wuhan, I was still in this city. I started protecting myself by not going out as much as I used to before, I would order my groceries online and made sure I wore a mask when going outside, this was before the lockdown. When the lockdown in Wuhan had officially been announced it was a little scary for me because that meant I could not leave and go back home.

After the lockdown I made sure to stock up on some basic necessities like food and toiletries. It wasn’t too bad because I am introverted and I like staying at home anyway. I think it was a necessary action to have the lock down to help curb the spread of the virus.

When the communities were further closed down I didn’t know how I would get my supplies but to my surprise a lot of my colleagues went out their way to check up on me and would give me a lot of help. Soon the community leaders came door to door to check on the residents' health and even took my contact information. I was later put in contact with other teachers who were helping to buy all the necessities, all I had to do was tell them. Most of my friends and colleagues have been very positive and supportive, which makes me feel very encouraged. I didn’t feel like I was alone in these tough times, they have been very kind to me and kept me hopeful. There were also a lot of times when I got free food like fresh vegetables, delivered right at my doorstep. I personally commend the actions taken by the Chinese Government in fighting against the COVID-19 and the help it has given to its people and even a foreigner like me, is quite admirable.

This outbreak although has brought much suffering and pain, however the medical staff and volunteers are the heroes in this story, it was indeed very beautiful to see the selflessness of these people. They stepped up to the occasion took on a great responsibility and deserve to be applauded and awarded for their priceless sacrifices. I am very grateful and I hope they receive many blessings in this life.

In short I appreciate what the Chinese government did, supporting its citizens in many ways and especially a lot of health personnel come to Wuhan the epicenter of the outbreak and helping to treat the people, all of which was completely free for the patients, and we can see the fruits of their effort as things are turning positive once more. We should all keep a positive attitude and keep cheering for the medical staff and volunteers, as well as each other, here in China and also all over the World.
